Donna Garrett asked:

Page 115 in text for CRC; "A licensed professional counselor is not a valid provider." Will someone please expound on this statement? Not a valid provider for risk adjustment diagnosis or not a valid provider for what. If a person has MA; LMFT; :LMHC credentials behind her name and does assign diagnoses and treat for mental health disorders; and also is hired by the government; not sure if it is local; state or what; but besides her own busy one-person practice she also goes to a center and trains interns for mental health counseling. But according to the statement in our text; she is "not a valid provider." Why would she not be a "valid provider" when a licensed social worker would be considered a "valid provider." Just trying to figure this out and would appreciate comments.

Thanks; Donna

Tiffany Baca wrote: Hi Donna; on page 35 and 36 in your book; there is a section titled "Acceptable Providers for MA." Any of those providers on the list on page 36 are acceptable providers that you would be able to capture diagnosis codes from. Providers that are not on that list; such as MA; LPC; LMHC; radiologists; you would not be able to capture codes from their documentation.
