Virginia Lydigsen asked:

Indication: Routine monitoring of IUD placement. Z30.431

Conclusion:

IUD in endometrial cavity. Z97.5

Otherwise; negative transabdominal only pelvic ultrasound.

How do you choose which code to use?

Answer:

Per the excludes1 note under Z97.5 you should not report Z30.431 with it so you are on the right track to ask which one.

The question is what was the reason for the visit - if it was for routine monitoring then code that Z30.431. If they are just noting a fact in conjunction with another procedure then use the Z97.5
