Donna Garrett asked:
In our CRC text; page 139: in study for cystic fibrosis "physician must explicity state that the pneumonia or bronchitis is due to a specific organism if the pneumonia is to be captured for RA.(see Table 4-1.17). This table is on seen this same page.
1. I do not see how the info in this table relates to a specific organism.
2. With regard to "Physician ... pneumonia ... specific organism ...;" is this true for all of the pneumonia and bronchitis codes? Or is it true only in relationship to cystic fibrosis.
Thanks; DonnaG
Answer:
You are correct. Cystic fibrosis is unique and you would be looking at codes from E84.0
E84.0 - Cystic fibrosis with pulmonary manifestations
**Use additional**
code to identify any infectious organism present; such as:
Pseudomonas ([B96.5](https://www.findacode.com/code.php?set=ICD10CM&c=B96.5))
Now; keep in mind that if there is not an organism to report you cannot.....
??
