Can we code GERD and Esophageal stricture together in same encounter?

While google it, which says "strictures is mainly caused from long-standing gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)" So What will be your action,

Chapter 11 really has no guidelines.

Chapter 11: Diseases of the Digestive System (K00-K95)
Reserved for future guideline expansion

I would think it would really depend on your documentation.

Let's see what Alicia says.

Yes, both conditions can be coded together since there are no EX1 notes. Remember though when a condition is caused by another condition, then you code first the casual condition (GERD) followed by the other condition (stricture). However, we cannot assume GERD caused the stricture, though GERD is the most common cause for the stricture, there can be other causes as well, but if the provider were to document that GERD is the cause of the stricture then that is how you would sequence those conditions. Hope this helps.
