Dodie Tenney LVN; CPC; CRC asked:
If a Medicare member is being seen for their Annual Wellness Visit (not a physical/exam) and there were no chronic conditions addressed would the DX code be Z00.00?
Answer:
According to the ABCs of the Annual Wellness Visit (AWV); an MLN document:
> Since CMS does not require a specific diagnosis code for the AWV; you may choose any appropriate diagnosis code. You must report a diagnosis code.
If there are no acute or chronic conditions being address; a "medical examination" (code Z00.00) would be the most appropriate diagnosis code. Unless there were some other reason the exam was being performed. https://www.cms.gov/Outreach-and-Education/Medicare-Learning-Network-MLN/MLNProducts/downloads/AWV_chart_ICN905706.pdf
