Laurette Moore asked:

Hello;

I am working on my CPT book in the BHAT Cave. I am in the Musculoskeletal 2000 series PDF but I have a question. If something is not bubbled or highlighted that looks like it should be because of its distinction and grouping between the codes; does that mean it is not important to highlight or bubble that section?

For example: on pg 117 in the 2018 CPT;

the second column is says

Bubble 21141; emphasize "...LeFort I..."
ii. Bubble 21150; emphasize "...LeFort II..."

So codes 21142; 21143; 21145; 21146; and 21147 are not important? They are the distinction between each other to find the proper code. and no highlighting was shown. This happens throughout the 2000 series.

Please help me figure this out. I have my board exam the first week of October and I still have a lot of BHAT to cover.

Thanks in advance;

Laurette

Please see Simons response to your question:

Based on the notes; you are supposed to bubble 21141. Codes 21142; 21143; 21145; 21146; and 21147 pertain to the code 21141. So 21141 - 21147 is one bubble and you are supposed to highlight everything after the semi-colon for code 21141 and codes 21142; 21143; 21145; 21146; and 21147. That box deals with LeFort I and is distinguished (codes) between a single piece; 2 pieces; etc. The way BHAT works is that you need to highlight everything that comes after the semi-colon and bubble that one group. Another example is code bubbling 21150 which includes 21150 and 21151. You are supposed to highlight everything that comes after the semi-colon for code 21150 and all of 21151. That bubble deals with LeFort II.
Also; in the PDF it states to emphasize the LeFort but underlining; circling; re-writing; whatever way it makes it stand out to you. That way you can see right away which one is LeFortI; LeFort II; LeFort III; etc. For head prosthesis; it is one bubble for codes 21076 through 21088. Whenever codes are indented; they belong to a bubble. A bubble usually goes on codes that begin with the same topic but differ in the endings (after the semi-colon)."
