CCO Admin asked:
Any free forums regarding secondary hypertension. My providers use it with out stating a underlying condition. I am not sure if I need to understand it better to give them better feed back? I am a member of the cco club.
Answer:
The fact is there might not be another dx with secondary HTN. There is a great link at Mayo Clinic I wanted to share but I cannot seem to get it to copy and paste with my iPad. If you go to Mayoclinic.org and put in the search Secondary Hyperension symptoms and causes i will give you some excellent information.
Resistant HTN might be the cause. It is or is no longer correcting with medications.
A B/P higher then 180/120
Sudden onset before age 30
No family hx
Not obease
These are all s/sx of secondary HTN.
What I would do regarding your provider for education is to offer in a query:
Secondary HTN d/t _______ if known.
That way the provider can let you know if it is renal; cardio etc...
