Hello pt is past the Postpartum period by two weeks. Md states pt is on narcotic for postpartum pain. Would this be coded to O9089 code and R52 or O99.893 and R52? I wasn’t going to code the narcotic as Idk if it’s prn?

ICD10CM guideline I.C.15.o.3 states "chapter 15 codes may also be used to describe pregnancy-related complications after ther peripartum or postpartum period if the provider documents that a condition is pregnancy related"
If the provider has documented that the pain comes from the pregnancy/postpartum period we can still use the appropriate code in Chapter 15 (O) to diagnose the patient.

By the md stating that the pt is on narcotics for post partum pain isn’t that saying it’s “pregnancy related ?
