ICD-10-CM describes "anemia in chronic diseases classified elsewhere" as anemia due to a disease:

  • neoplastic disease
  • chronic kidney disease (CKD)
  • other, including chronic infections

Both Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and anemia of chronic disease (ACD) can present as microcytic anemia. It is important to differentiate between the two, because the treatment is different.
