Resolved Documentation Requirements for Intermediate Wound Repair 2021

Hi! With below the description of intermediate repair for 2021 guidelines, if the documentation states that the wound was closed in 2 layers - one subcutaneous and one skin, does it still merit intermediate repair? Or simple repair Thank you!

Intermediate repair includes the repair of wounds that, in addition to the above, require layered closure of one or more of the deeper layers of subcutaneous tissue and superficial (non-muscle) fascia, in addition to the skin (epidermal and dermal) closure. It includes limited undermining (defined as a distance less than the maximum width of the defect, measured perpendicular to the closure line, along at least one entire edge of the defect). Single-layer closure of heavily contaminated wounds that have required extensive cleaning or removal of particulate matter also constitutes intermediate repair.

Here is the descriptions for Simple & Intermediate in 2024 and 2022. My encoder didn't got back to 2021 but I seem to remember it was the same.
2024:
Simple -

A simple, one-layer closure using sutures, staples, or tissue adhesive is performed. These closure methods may be used alone or together, including their use combined with adhesive strips. However, chemical cautery, electrocautery, or adhesive strips used alone are not considered simple repair closure and would be reported as part of an evaluation and management service.
Intermediate -
A layered closure using sutures, staples, and/or tissue adhesive is performed. Tissues are undermined using scissors or scalpel to minimize tension on the wound. Bleeding is controlled by chemical or electrocautery. The deepest layers are then closed with absorbable sutures and the knot is buried. Alternatively, permanent sutures may be used. The superficial layer is closed taking care to ensure that the wound edges are aligned and everted to prevent depression of the scar.

2022
Simple -
A simple one-layer closure using sutures, staples, or tissue adhesive is performed. Alternatively, chemical cautery or electrocautery may be used to treat the wound without closure.

Intermediate - A layered closure using sutures, staples, and/or tissue adhesive is performed.
