CCO Admin asked:

CPT coding; when billing for a surgical assist; do you bill the entire surgical fee (what the surgeon charges) and then use the modifier or do you adjust the charge amount by payor? Which method is more appropriate?

Answer:

You have to do what the payer wants. Find out how the payer wants you to do it.

Most of the time you bill full amount with the modifier and send in the documentation to explain. Never cut the price.
